 Lord Mayors Reception.

Some of you may remember Carers Week 14th – 18th June 2004. Claude Miller who is now the Lord Mayor for Plymouth addressed the carers at the event I organised for carers week. At that time Claude informed those present he would be inviting us along to a reception at the Lord Mayors Parlor. I gave Claude a list of those who were interested in attending and the event took place on Friday the 1st October at Elliot Terrace on Plymouth Hoe.  It was in the evening and unfortunately some could not attend because of other commitments. Approximately fourteen people were able to attend and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. There was a buffet and drinks provided when we arrived, later we went to the upstairs lounge for coffee and a chat. It was really cosy with a coal fire burning in the hearth, with a lovely view across Plymouth Sound. We were also entertained by one of the staff, who told us the history of the building and stories about Lady Astor, Sir Francis Drake and other famous characters from our history. Followed by a tour of the building with the history behind each room. We were also informed the chair Jenny Burchell was sitting in had been used by Queen Elizabeth, trust Jenny to pick that seat!

Before we left we were asked to sign the visitors book, photo below of carer. Una Perry signing the visitors book.

There were more carers at the event that can be viewed in the photo's, unfortunately the battery in my camera went flat on me!

Jenny sat in the queens chair in the background next to the lamp, Jan Anstis kneeling next to the Lord Mayor, Tracy Summers in the white floral dress, who is a health and social care student. Tracy has chosen carers as one of her projects.
