http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/ MoodGYM is the first evidence-based, interactive CBT programme to be released free of charge to the public. MoodGYM was written partly to meet the needs of Australian service users living in remote areas far from psychiatric and psychological support services. The internet is one way of supporting such service users 24/7 at no cost. The mental health team at Canberra began in the early 1990s with extensive research into potential user communities before the site was developed and the project is award-winning in Australia.  There have been formal evaluations and randomised controlled trials for MoodGYM and the efficacy and effectiveness of the intervention have been reported in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (2002, 2004), the British Medical Journal (2004), the British Journal of Psychiatry (2004) and the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry (2006). A major trial of MoodGYM with GP practices in NSW was held during 2003-2005. One of the principles of MoodGYM is that it is also intended to teach people how to prevent themselves from spiralling down into depression. It is aimed at younger people – although the average user age is 35 years old. Data gathered supports research projects, and so the project is self sustaining, benefiting both the user community and the research community

http://www.kpchr.org/feelbetter/ Overcoming Depression on the Internet (ODIN)  (a site which teaches the art of just noticing and then applying positive counter thoughts for irrational thoughts) has two published trials. The first trial with no telephone contact for users had poor results. The second trial had regular telephone contact to encourage user participation and had much results
